Northern Viking (33) writes:
You know you've reached the status of empire when the beurocrats take over. One of garrisons forgot to fill out the appropriate change of address forms and were punished by having there supplies cut off, causing some starvation. It seems we have more couriers than soldiers. Further, the couriers are demanding the latest in transport, leaving the rest of us earthbound, ankle deep in mud. Of course if you protest, you may find that the paymaster "forgets" to show up.
Onwards to Empire.

Red Drogans (129) writes:
There is no such thing as a free lunch.
His mom had pounded that into his head many a time.
He had had to do chores until his fingers bled for just about anything he wanted.
It had been good for him. He wasn't lazy. He was prepared to go to a fair amount of effort for something he'd set his mind to.
But he had also realised, that while there may be no free lunch, you could get someone else to pay.
And they would.
They had been sacking the hovels and villiages all across the valley. Now they had come across a town.
Well it probably wasn't that big, but they had build a palasade around the place.
So it would be a little tougher to get in. But they were getting good at sacking. Building it into a fine art.
And this town was going down the same as all the villiages. Maybe more so.
The Palasading would be a challange. And, having gone to that much trouble, so would those gaurding the place.
While he was pretty sure it would fall. They would probably loose a few men.
Possibly more than a few.
After that the men would feel obliged to..., how shall I put this..., entertain themselves at the expense of the defenders.
The trouble was that this party was about to get the bill.
He was pretty sure that the cavalry was somewhere behind. They had left enough of a trail.
So now he had to find a way to pass on this bill on too.
And he had to get it right, for the company he currently kept had just too many sharp things that they might pass into him if he got it wrong.
But not before that town. It was looking right for the plucking.

Order of Chaos (139) writes:
The peace of Ethilfinlun and the surrounding regions continues, and all the current powers in the region seem to agree this in the best interest of all parties.
We welcome our new friends of the western alliance this month to our lands.
Many months and exchanges of cordial diplomatic notes have resulted in agreements that will assist us all in our growth. As always, single man parties are welcome upon REVEALing their employer. My UNFRIENDLY attitude is not directed against the innocent and honest explorer, but rather is a means of curtailing the movements of the wild animals and other unsavory packs of "things" that wander our fair land.
I continue to welcome any communication in regards to trade, cooperative efforts, or alliance from those currently in the region. You may reach me via the incantation wyrmsNOwyrdSPAM@yahoo.com (Omit speaking the words NO & SPAM when using this cantrip please. ;)

Heliadois (192) writes:
The time has come to step into this world in earnest.
The peasants have been given orders and the bell has been rung. Iron is being mined and swords are being forged in some quantities. Wood has is being cut and bows are being created. Herbs are being scouted for, livestock is being counted and grain has been sown. The armies will be well fed, clothed, equipped and protected.
The armies might not be ours to command, but the killing blows they inflict will have our blood and sweat imprinted on them forever.
