Red Drogans (129) writes:
Well the Dragon hunt had been a complete fiasco.
He had lost 30 good men
Shammon had been of no help. And he was starting to get as worried about him as everyone else was.
The thing is how do you retire a Mage?
How do you tell a man who can blow your castle away with the flick of a wrist, that you want to put him out to pasture? That he is not longer of use?
On the other hand, how do you keep a man around who could blow your castle away because he accidentally forgot which cup had his coffee in?
Assasination had it's uses. However he was not comfortable with it as means to an end. It was a short cut. A way of avoiding solving the problem. And consequently the cost usually turned out way too high.
In this case, assasination of a loyal friend, what would that do to his reputation? His word? His respect?
And he was also not completely convinced Shammon was entirely senile. A failed attempt might cost more directly than a successful one.
Which would actually cost more is more of a debate they would have in the tavern. Probably over in the next kingdom some years from now.
No, that solution would have to wait until he was completely senile and a danger to everyone around him.
For now he was harmless. Or at least doing no harm when left to himself.
Perhaps a talk to his assistant to keep him that way.
But eitherway. Just like a good Dragon. A good Mage is hard to come by.
Probably need the one to get the other.
Got the Mage. Not so good anymore.
Got 5 Dragon eggs. Was 6 but Shammon put the one in the fire to see if it would hatch. Eventually it exploded.
No one was hurt. But they have to rebuild the wall and part of the stable.
The other 5 are now part of the rockery. They look good though.
It is known that several new fractions appear in Nexus.. What are they
going to do?

True victory comes from forgiving your enemies completely. Because
then they'll be off-guard when you go in for revenge.

On this holiday spent with the family, I'm reminded to be thankful to
the creator of mind-numbing alcoholic beverages.
