Grey Wind (27) writes:

Hey, Horseride, kindly stop attacking my forces, especially my noncombatants. Now I've got to go back down and hire more lumberjacks and miners. It's rather annoying, and it's not like I've ever done anything to you. If you're really itching for war, there's got to be someone who's interested in fighting.

Sohu-Sbrol Guild (62) writes:

[This wasn't taken last week.]

The dragons aren't attacking,
and those that are have good loot,
and the demons don't have Balrogs helping,
because Hellfire leaves crispy troops.

The peasants pay their taxes on time,
so the garrison can eat,
the troops practice their spear lines,
shuffling their feet.

Who is that red coated man in the sky,
laughing heartily as he evades our wings,
we will let arrows fly,
and capture him while he sings,

Merry Christmas To All And To All A Good Night!

Red Drogans (129) writes:

They had finished eating and he called them to order.
After a few moments all was quite and it was time to get down to business.
"I've called you all together tonight so that we can discuss or Mage,
Shammon. It would appear that he is becoming less helpful than one might expect of someone of his experience."
"Bloody loon. If you ask me." came a comment from down the table in a stage wisper.
There were enough nods of asent that he chose not to rebuke him as was his norm. Clearly time to deal with the problem then.
"Lord St Scharl, perhaps you could open us this discussion with an idea of how best to replace him?" He said, singling out the source of the wisper.
There was some clearing of throats while Lord St Scharl, feeling slightly rebuked, settled himself into the stares of those around the table.
"Yes my Lord. None of us at this table would want to encourage anything more than retirement. So I assume we are mearly talking about finding a new Mage?"
He kept quite, trying to gage how the table felt about the implied assasination. They mercifully looked uncomfortable. This was a good sign.
"Indeed." He said. Leaving it at that.
After another pregnant pause, Lord St Scharl knew he was still in the hot seat, and continued without much inthusiasm.
"Urm. Would it not be possible to hire one?"
"Very expensive." Said another voice around the table.
"True. Perhaps we could train up his assistant?" another voice.
And so the discussion got going. Even Lord St Scharl relaxed into it.
Unfortunately Good Mages are expensive to produce. Much time, money and expensive study goes into producing one.
For this reason they are expensive to hire.
And given their rarety they are usually pretty exentric too. This too can be expensive.
Shammon had been on the calmer side as Mages went.
They were probably going to have to hire a medium quality Mage who could help train up Shammon's assistant while improving his own skills in which ever direction they needed.
And perhaps get a possible senior Mage on retainer just incase they needed something beyond eitherone's ability.
He had known that coming into the meeting, but was hoping someone might have an idea. But so far it was going as expected.
That did still leave the problem of what to do with Shammon. And then the temp Mage after they no longer needed him.
"There may be another way." Came the voice of De Kerik.
He was a new man on the council. Mostly quite so far with a few odd idea's.
Always good to have new idea's though.
"And what would that be?" Lord St Scharl, dripping sarcasm. He did not like the young De Kerik.
"There is a Mage up North. He might be persuaded to relocate to warmer climates if the insentive is sufficient."
"And exactly how much is that going to cost us?"
"Insentive, Lord St Scharl, isn't always money."
"So what ... insentive, did you have in mind. De Kerik."
"Friendship, warm weather and five Dragon eggs."
"Oh, hell no." This echoed by a number of voices. "Hell,no."
He waved that away with a flick of his wrist. "We build him a place across the meadow. He play there. The bigger problem is the persuade."
"You were giving us the impresion that he would want to come."
"He will. But his current ... employer, has a bit of a hold on him."
"How do you ... hold, a Mage?"
"Tower. Girl. Gaurds. It's not as difficult as you seem to think."
"So all we've got to do is get the girl and we get the Mage."
"No! They have a hold on him, but don't actually have him against his will.
So, we need to get to and persuade the girl to relocate. Then rescue her. In the mean time, get to and apprise said Mage of our plans, persuade him to go along with them, then rescue said Mage. He may be in prison, but it is a comfortable one."
"And assuming all of that works. What of his current employer?"
"Ah. There is the rub. Unfortunately he is quite the prideful beast. And will want to punish the perpetrators and retrieve his property."
"War you mean."
"War ... But that is the worse case scenario."
"That is pretty bad."
"Yes. But I have an Idea..."
