Northern Viking (33) writes:

The wheels of empire grind slowly. It has come to our attention (someone poked us with a stick) that there are units in our cities not revealing their factions. Everybody knows that you can't wander about other dominions whilst hiding your allegiances. So, if you're in one of our cities, or any other place guarded by us (Northern Viking 33), reveal your faction or die. We'll try to be creative in how we kill you.

Onwards to Empire.

Klingons (57) writes:

yo'aj Kahless,

Good News!

The sages predict that the combat season will commence early this year.

While I did not initially believe them, they showed me each and every detail and assured me that our forces will be able to deploy immediately.

There is much that we can do. There is much to be tamed in the underground, and much honor to be gained on distant shores as well. The only limitation to what we can accomplish will be the strength of our sword-arms, and the courage in our heart.

Battle and Honor will be ours, as long as we follow the Klingon Way.

Red Drogans (129) writes:

The pigeon did not circle long before landing on the tiled roof of the keep.
It sat there for a while preening itself. Before the lure of food drove it into the cage.
Once inside the boy quickly caught it and removed the message tied to it.
Stroking the pigeon fondly he put it in it's box, job well done.
Then he left the cage and ran up the back stairs to rooms where Lord More had his office.
He wasn't there, but his aide took the message. Read it and went up to the ramparts.

Lord More was having his coffee up on the ramparts watching the sun drop down the sky and a dust trail aproach from the south.
He wondered again if this was his column arriving back. They had been gone a while and news of sacked villiages were still coming in.
He knew of course that news or rumour could come in much after the event took place and that often the details could be sketchy at best. Down right wrong at other times.
And the rumour of a band of armed men could be the hunter as much as the prey. But it had been a while and he was growing concerned.

"My Lord."
He turned to his aide. "Ah, Grandville. Come to watch the sun set?"
"No my Lord. A message has arrived by pigeon."
Pigeon messages cost. They cost because the pigeons needed to be taken to the sending location and housed there. And they needed to be exercised.
But you can't exercise them at the other end of the journey else they would fly home. So time spent at the far end was short.
For this to work a regular shipment of pigeons to key towns in the realm was needed and this came at a cost.
It meant that he could get regular updates on what was happening around those towns as the pigeons had to fly anyway.
But that had become a regular scheduled report.
This was not scheduled. And Grandville had braught it strait up.
He did like to take a break on the ramparts occationally and relax. But that time was now over.

He put down his coffee and took up the note.

It said:
Lord More
The pack is destroyed, but the fox is at bay.
We have persuid across the border, but he has slipped us again.
Checking every lead before our return. But not confident of success.
Captain Walles.

"You've read it?" he asked.
"Yes Sir."
"Where's it from?"
Granville tried to remember if the lad had mentioned. "I think it was Sea Breaze sir."
"Across the border then."
"Yes sir."
He thought for a moment.
"Send for Duke. I will meet with him after dinner." Duke, was Lord More's security advisor. The eyes of the Realm.
"We need to track the fox. Removing him from our lands is not the end of the job."

The meeting over, Granville left to his chore.
Lord More turned once more to look at the dust trail.
Not his column then.

Order of Chaos (139) writes:

The peace of Ethilfinlun and the surrounding regions continues, and all the current powers in the region seem to agree this in the best interest of all parties.

We bid welcome our new friends from across the eastern pond this month. Many months and exchanges of cordial diplomatic notes have resulted in alliances that will strengthen us all. As always, single man parties are welcome in my lands upon REVEALing their employer. My UNFRIENDLY attitude is not directed against the innocent and honest explorer, but rather is a means of curtailing the movements of the wild animals and other unsavory packs of "things" that wander our fair land.

I continue to welcome any communication in regards to trade, cooperative efforts, or alliance from those currently in the region. You may reach me via the incantation wyrmsNOwyrdSPAM@yahoo.com (Omit speaking the words NO & SPAM when using this cantrip please. ;)

I've come to the dusty town of Ney-brer. It's hot here but quite a wonder as I start my explorations. For one thing I hadn't expected so many towers in a single town, this isn't what I'm used to from the Nexus! So many towers my neck was aching looking up at them and even the locals seem to have got fed up with this form of architecture and moved on to building a fort. No doubt to the well-travelled this is a backward place but it seems marvellous to me. Still, on its own it doesn't offer much to the new traveller so I've decided to hire a few local guides to tell me about the surrounding countryside. Progress will be slow if they have to walk everywhere so I hope I'll find some horses available soon. It also seems prudent to engage a bodyguard in case I encounter anything unpleasant as I move around. No idea of the sort of thing we'll face but I'll teach them to fight if they need to. Perhaps some of the nearby locals would also pay for their protection, although it seems likely that the other residents here look after that. There seem to be a lot of unemployed peasants here which is odd as I've heard that one can simply order them to 'work' for profit. Not sure how that works, haha, as the guidebooks I've read so far merely mention it, without giving any details. Oh well, it seems worth trying so I've taken-on a chap who was looking relatively clean. If that venture succeeds I shall hire more.

As well as taking in the sights and hiring all these locals I've been entertained by some bards here and even seen some celebrities - award winning correspondents for this very journal, in fact. It's very exciting, if still a little bewlidering. The expense mounts up though; I can quite see why I was warned to watch my money. As a busy area they import a lot of food here, it may be worth while investigating the farming opportunities in nearby regions. Then again it may just be a seasonal shortage, being Winter, how would I know?

My body is like a dwelling and I am merely renting it for this lifetime. Now, who do I call about this gas leak?

Don't you worry Captain we'll beat those Klingon devils even if I have to get out and push...
