Red Drogans (129) writes:
He threw his cloak over a chair, and flopped down into another one.
"Laden! Beer!"
He was feeling quite depressed and tired. But at least he was back in camp
now. Those on foot would still take a while and it was already heading into
evening.
"Laden!! Beer!!" He raised his voice this time.
Still nothing.
He got up and pulled aside the curtain to the tent.
Empty.
"You!" He yelled at a soldier walking by.
"Sir!" was the startled reply.
"Find me Laden. Now!"
"Yes. Sir." And the lad ran off.
He slumped back down into the chair.
"I need a beer." He voiced to the evening air.
Running noises were heard behind him and he turn to see Laden running toward
his tent, barely dressed.
He'd never seen him not looking poised before. If he hadn't been upset it
would have been quite funny.
"I'm... here... Sir." He stammered out of breath.
"Where were you?" This not angrely, but curious.
"Long Drop. Sir."
"Ah. Yes. Well... Sorry for the interuption... Erm... I was looking for a
beer."
There was a momentary pause before Laden became all business like again.
"Beer. Sir. On it's way." He walked or just perhaps stormed into the tent.
Settling back into the chair with his feet up he contenplated the days outing.
"You catch your Dragon? Sir?" Asked Laden placing the beer beside him.
"No!" And this was the reason for his current mood.
The trip down the shaft had been a longish one.
They had come upon the burned remains of the miner. This sobering many of them to the reality of what they were doing and about to face.
So, when they had finally arrived at the Lair. The spearmen very reluctantly aproached, fanning out to minimise the casualties, while the archers were grouping to maximise the weight of arrows.
Shammon had walked through the middle of this with a apple in hand talking to his assistant about the complexities of assertaining ownership of the undead.
They turned the corner and...
Well nothing. When spearmen and archers built up enough courage and rounded the corner they found Shammon and his assitant playing with some smooth rocks which he believed to be Dragon eggs.
The lair was empty.
They had left most of the eggs behind, alowing him to bring just one back with him to experiment with.
There was some unhappyness about this. And it fell into 2 camps.
Those that thought the eggs might sell for a fair price in the market, and those that thought the egg brought back, might bring the Dragon to come looking for it.
The king was hoping that the latter camp was correct. It would save them the trek back down the shaft looking for the Dragon.
He had ordered some men to map the underground. He was hoping to find the other exits.
"I still want that Dragon." He thought to himself, and downed his beer.

We hereby post notice that any magic wagon drivers found to have sampled their mushroom cargoes during the voyage will be immediately sacked on discovery. If the drivers arrive in a condition in which they can in fact be sacked, that is.

Just a quick note this month. I've caught something unpleasant from one of the unwashed multitude around here and have been keeping to my bed since I last wrote. At the last minute I'm rushing to make sure all my employees have something to do next month - I just hope it turns out to make some money at last. Everyone warned me to be careful with my starting 'unclaimed' silver and now, for the first time, I should actually start earning some. Let's see how it goes.

There is a nasty rumor that more factions are writing rumors than articles. Have all just become a bunch of gossip girls?!
