Red Drogans (129) writes:

At last he heard the sound of horses hooves echoing off the cave walls. Then the actuall foot falls, and at last Adam emerged from around the bend and approached Corr where he was waiting at the junction.
"Dead end." Said Adam. A few twists and turns, but nothing else.
"Right. Left it is then."
"Right. Left indeed."
They were under instructions to map the shaft. So Corr took out his slate and marked on it the dead end.
Then plodded off down the other shaft.
"So. Do you think we might run into the Dragon?" Asked Adam.
"Shhh!" said Corr, bringing the horses to a stop.
All they heard was the echo of their horses hooves on the rocky surface.
Then that died to quite. Followed by the sound of wind in the distance.
There was a slight breeze on his face keeping the air fresh, but nothing to account for the sound of wind.
Then, where the lamp light illuminated a turn in the shaft ahead, apeared the Dragon.
It wings out full, touching the floor and roof in a sharp bank as it rounded the corner.
It came level, straight at them, body undulating as it picked up the speed lost in the corner.
Corr hauled hard on the reigns in attempt to get the horse out of the centre of the shaft, it was to no avail. The Dragon was upon him before the horse coul move.
With a flick of the tail, the Dragon arched over them, like they were rocks in his way and continued on down the shaft.
The turbulance left behind him knocked Corrs horse onto his side, with Corr slamming agains the wall, but mostly unhurt.
Then the lamp broke.
In the dieing light he glanced down the shaft and saw the Dragon into another bank into the corner behind and disappear.
"Corr?"
"I'm okay Adam. You?"
"Fine. I'm just realy glad he left us alone."
"Yes. Well, it's not over yet."
"How so?"
"Now she finds out that there is an egg missing. Where do you suppose she comes looking?"

Corr had a flint on him. But they still had to find the horses in the dark for the fire brands.
The horses were restless in the pitch dark, so it was a quick job.
Brands lit, the hit the path at full gallop. Hoping not to break a horses leg.
Furtunately they were close to an exit. Although any thought of mapping was long lost.
The came out the shaft into an area of scattered cover. Small forrests and brush dotted the landscape.
Corr picked a gully with plenty of bush.
Just in time.
The Dragon shot from the shaft like an arrow from a bow. And she was angry.
The head tracked left and right hunting.
The birds in the area went quite. The noises of the underbrush went quite!
The Dragon circled wide. Dropping into random cover. Setting others on fire.
Corr and Adam remained still. Even when some brush to their left started burning.
The horses got jumpy. But they kept them still and waited.
Eventually the Dragon settled for the wait on a nearby outcrop. Head still tracking the landscape. Waiting.
But he spotted the smoke from the camp sight, a distance away, but visible on the horizon.
He glanced around once more, but then took to flight, in that direction.
"Do we move?" Asked Adam.
"Not yet. I don't trust that thing. In fact. I think we can release the
horses tonight and make our way back on foot and under cover."
"Walk?"
"Yes. Walk. It's better than burn."
