Red Drogans (129) writes:
The Dragon carcas lay at the base of a lone tree some distance from the camp.
He had eventually turned to flee, but the damage had already been done.
The sky had turned dark with the weight of arrows & bolts climbing up toward the Dragon as it made another pass of the camp.
Not all those had hit their mark and many of screams coming from the camp still was as a result of it.
He'd found 2 in his shield after the pass, but no Dragons fire had come his way. Although, he had last a good horse.
Now he was standing waiting for .... to arrive. He was looking at the Dragon mostly to avoid the carnage in the camp.
It's not how battles are supposed to be faught. Man on man. Sword to shield.
Blood and sweat. Not fire. And lots of it.
He shuddered remembering.
Then turned as .... arrived to look at the Dragon. Cup of coffee in hand.
"Hey. That's a Dragon."
"Yes." replied his assistant, "It's why we were out here. To catch it."
"Catch it? You can't catch a dead Dragon. No. You needed to keep it alive."
"Keep it alive..." started the king, but trailed off, finishing with: "Why did it attack us out of the blue? Was it after the egg?"
"Egg?" asked ....
"The thing you put under your pillow." Explained his assistant.
"Oh that. I threw it out last night. Thought it was a prank. Egg you say?"
"No sir. Egg YOU say."
"Best go have a look at it then." and he walked off with his assistant in tow.
The king looked back at the Dragon. You could see that scratch marks on its scales from the arrows and bolts. But none stuck.
It's the ones that found a gap between them that caused the damage.
You could see where blood had run out of holes or even still the end of an arrow sticking out.
Of course, where the blood dripped. The acid ate up the grass leaving a scorch mark on the ground.
No one touched the Dragon.
