Red Drogans (129) writes:
The Keg and Oar. A lively dock side ale house with rooms in the back.
The owner kept it in reasonable nick, and the bouncers, 2 great big vikings.
Kept everyone vaguely in line.
Not a bad place really, although it did see it's share of less savoury characters.
I'd been here a few times already looking for information.
The owner had been helpfull in the past and had good contacts.
"Evening Morrees." One of the bouncers.
"Evening Sir. Welcome back."
I could never tell if Morrees was being serious or tongue in cheeck. His face gave no expressions.
What I did know was that it was useless to ask Morrees for any information.
Those eyes saw a lot, and those ears have heard a few things. But they were one way. Morrees shared nothing. Other than the occational hint that he knew something he was going to be telling you.
"Owen in?"
"You will have check for yourself."
He meant that I'd have to hand over my sword and dagger. Which of course I then did.
Inside was hot. But not too stuffy. In high summer all the windows & doors would be wide to form a draft through keeping the place managable.
There was a crowd and I scanned it, but only recognised a few faces. One or recognised me and turned away. i.e. they were up to something, I'd have to make a note of that and have them watched.
But for now there is Owen.
"Evening Owen." I said, getting to the bar.
Turning he stared me in the eyes for a moment. Then forgowing his usual broad smile, "what are you after."
Usually Owen is renown for being friendly. It's the most attractive feature in the ale house. And the Ale is good. But he was astute too. And could tell this was not a social call.
"Someone new in town. Special skills. He can get by gaurds and into the
Kings bedroom and leave no trace."
He continued drying the glass he was busy with. But relaxed and leaned against the counter.
"I heard about the attempt. You guys tried to keep it quite. I would say those are some skills the lad has. But I like our current Lord. So, I'll see what I can find out. Beer?"
That was owen in business mode.
"Not tonight Owen. Other calls to make. But send a message when you are ready to share THAT beer."
"It'll be soon."
I left through the crowd again. This time taking note of who watched me and did not look away.
At the door Morees had a Dessert Dwarf by the ankles and was shaking him. A throwing dagger dropped from his clothing someplace.
"Any more?" he asked.
"No!" yelled the frightened Dwarf.
"That's what you said last time." said Morrees and continued shaking.

Monster hunters (182) writes:
They looked at the place that had once been a crypt full of skeletons and undead. Now, it was a wreck, not one stone left standing on another.
They'd been preparing for fighting those undead for months; it would take half a year to reach the point where they were able to leave by gate. Perhaps the Desert Eagles would allow them passage.
There was nothing for them here. The hunt must move on.
