They were hunting hard.
They'd gotten pretty close. More than once.
And more than once he was glad of the strict training.
The unending practice untile perfection was reached.
And then the unending repitition of said perfection.
No excuses. No letup.
Now he did not even think of taking shortcuts. His trail was well covered.
And here they were again.
He waved to the guard captain. Man by the name of Elk. He wasn't that big, but he could handle himself like he was.
Elk finished givin instructions to his men, had a chat to the barman.
Then stopped over at the table.
"Evening."
"Hey Elk. Any luck yet? Rumour has it you guys are fishing in the wrong pond."
"Nothing yet." His void was deep base, hard to believe it came his athletic frame.
"But we've come close. Lost a lead last week. The bastard got to him first."
"You sure that was a solid lead? Rumour around town is that there is nothing to be found, and that you guys are on a wild goose chase."
"Can't speak for that lead in particular, but we are in the right pond. But this fish is slippery."
"Care to have a beer and chat."
"Love to, but we got some more bars to turn over and leads to follow."
"Sorry to hear that, but duty calls." He lifted his glass in salute. "I'll keep my ears pealed though just in case something comes up."
"All we can ask at the moment. Until he slips up. And he will. They all do."
"Quite right. Well sorry you can't drink with me, but here's to catching the bastard."
Elk mimed the toast with an empty hand. Then said his good byes heading off to where his men were gathering and out into the night.
Nice guy really, but he was wrong. This bastard was not going to slip up. He had a new plan that was developing. But patience was a key ellement. So that is the skill he is currently honing to perfection.
